The Cure’s Robert Smith has remixed Ride’s ‘Vapour Trail’ to coincide with the 25th anniversary reissue of their debut album ‘Nowhere’. The remix will not appear on the album but will be released as double A side along with a second remix of ‘Vapour Trail’ by Robert Smith in a single entitled ‘Vapour Trail – Disintegrated’.
The Cure frontman is a long-term friend of the 90s Shoegaze band, with the oxford band having supported The Cure at the Great British Weekend event in 1991. He is especially a fan of Ride’s ‘Vapour Trail’, having commented in the documentary ‘Beautiful Noise’ that “I instantly remember songs like ‘Vapour Trail’… it’s one of the best 15 second intros of all time!”
It is unsurprising then that both his takes on ‘Vapour Trail’ include an extended introduction. Otherwise the remixes doesn’t deviate too far from the tone of the original, instead they add a somewhat ‘Disintegrated’ era flavour to them. you can hear them both below:
Ride will also be touring the UK for the anniversary of ‘Nowhere’ in october, playing the album in full for the first time.
Ride guitarist Andy Bell spoke of the upcoming tour, saying:”I’m so excited about playing ‘Nowhere’ in full… I didn’t realise how few times we’d actually played most of the songs. And of course we have never played the album in its original track order before.
