Lewis Capaldi recently shared with the Daily Star newspaper that he will not be bringing out any new music in 2020 as he feels everyone has “suffered enough.” The Scottish star joked about everyone being sad enough because of all of the atrocities we have experienced this year, that his sad songs would only make it worse.
Lewis Capaldi has been busy during lockdown, he says he has written around fifty songs over the last few months and ” like three or four of them are good, which is a good ratio.” He also revealed that he is surprised by his productivity, saying; “I am surprised at how productive I have been during lockdown as I thought I’d just sit in my pants all day and that would be it.” He believes he will be ready to release a new album next year.
For fans that are hoping for Lewis to collaborate with other artists on his next album, he has said this album is just for him, saying; “I think for my second album I want to keep it just me” he followed with a joke saying; “the problem is if you do a collaboration with someone you need to split the money. And I am a selfish man and I do not want to split the cash with anyone!”
This follows recent news that Lewis Capaldi’s parents told him to ditch the hit song Someone You Loved when he first showed it to them. Lewis said “I played them two songs. One was a piano ballad and one was a summer song, it was a bit more upbeat. They said. ‘The upbeat one is really good, the piano ballad we are not really into’. That piano ballad ended up being Someone You Loved” He said it was obvious by his mother’s face that she wasn’t into it, but now when they don’t like a demo he shows them, he knows it will make money.
Lewis Capaldi shot to fame in 2018 with hit songs like Someone You Loved and Bruises. His debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent became the best selling album in the UK in five years, spending five weeks at number one in its first six weeks of release. The album also achieved gold status in the UK only two weeks after release. Capaldi also won the 2020 Brit Award for Best New Artist.
