English pop rock band Lawson has returned to music with a new single entitled “Lovers” (via Cooking Vinyl) on April 17. The new track is the band’s first song in four years after taking a hiatus. A music video is also premiered alongside the track.
“Lovers” is a fresh tropical pop song with a tinge of Lawson’s signature sound. Frontman Andy Brown wrote this song to portray the feeling of being young and in love, which—in his words—is “no better feeling in the world than that”.
“It’s a feel-good song that our fans will love, but hopefully people who haven’t listened to our music before will love it too! It felt great to be back with the lads again and it gave us all a new energy to create what we think is our best stuff,” explains Brown.
The quartet also gave out some details with their upcoming album with CelebMix. When asked about their new project, they said that they have produced most of the songs on the album by themselves, and the record would be similar to the track “Lovers“: “it’s modern yet still has that Lawson feel to it,” said the band.
Ki Fitzgerald (who previously work with Lawson their hit singles “Standing in the Dark” and “When She Was Mine” from the debut album) and Jon Green (James Bay’s producer) are listed as the producers of Lawson’s latest track. The four-piece said that it was great to work with them.
Lawson consists of Andy Brown, Joel Peat, Ryan Fletcher, and Adam Pitts who formed the band in 2009 as The Grooves before changing to the current name. In 2011, they were signed to Polydor Records and released the first album ‘Chapman Square‘ in 2012.
The album was a commercial breakthrough in the country. Three singles from the LP—”When She Was Mine“, “Taking Over Me“, and “Standing in the Dark“—hit the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart, while the album peaked at number 4.
Lawson continued to build their stardom in the music scene, with the re-release of their debut record titled ‘Chapman Square — Chapter II‘. This edition spawned two smash hits “Brokenhearted” and “Juliet“, the latter of which has become the band’s most successful single to date.
In 2016, they dropped a sophomore LP ‘Perspective‘. Four singles, including “Roads“, were cut to promote the record, but it could not meet the success that the first one did achieve. After the release of ‘Perspective‘, the band was dropped from Polydor.
The “Learn to Love Again” group decided to take a break, as Brown pursued a solo career by releasing a country album ‘Cedarmont‘ in 2018. The four lads reunited again in the same year for a sold-out one-off show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London, which later on inspired them to relaunch the band.
Currently signed to Cooking Vinyl, Lawson is ready to make a comeback for their fans. “Lovers” is served as the first preview of what has yet to come. In support of their return, the band unveiled playful documentary Lawson: Where Are They Now?, which obviously encapsulates what they have been up to during their hiatus. See it from the post below.
