Lana Del Rey has released a new track, ‘Looking for America’, in response to the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, that rocked the state on August 3, and a shooting at a Dayton bar the following day. 20 people inside a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, were shot and killed, with another nine confirmed in a separate incident outside a bar in Dayton, Ohio.
The ‘Paradise’ singer collaborated with producer Jack Antonoff in the making of this track. Antonoff, (lead singer of The Bleachers), was summoned by Del Rey to compose the track.
The drummer and guitarist for Fun also plays bass as Lana sings on the record, “I’m still looking for my own version of America/ One without the guns, where the flag can freely fly/ No bombs in the sky, just fireworks, and you and I.”
Lana produced a statement along with the release of the tribute track.
“Hi folks came back early from Montecito with my brother this morning and asked Jack Antonoff to come into town because I had a song on my mind that I wanted to write,” she said, adding. “Now I know I’m not a politician and I’m not trying to be so excuse me for having an opinion—but in light of all of the mass shootings and the back to back shootings in the last couple of days which really affected me on a cellular level I just wanted to post this video that our engineer Laura took 20 minutes ago. I hope you like it.”
Lana Del Rey’s upcoming sixth album, ‘Norman Fucking Rockwell’, is set to be released on August 30. A number of songs have already been released from her next studio effort, including ‘Mariners apartment complex’, ‘hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but I have it’, and ‘Venice Bitch’.
