After her meeting with the Dalai Lama, it has been reported that Lady Gaga has been ‘banned’ from China. Lady Gaga discussed her opinions on meditation and mental health which led to her being added to a so-called list of hostile foreign forces.
Now Gaga’s music is to be banned from China by the Communist party’s propaganda department. Hong Lei, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, criticised the Dalai Lama and his worldwide campaign:
“The purpose of his visits and activities in other countries is just to promote his proposal for Tibetan independence.” We hope that people from the international community can be fully aware of his true colours and nature.”
Lady Gaga joins fellow solo female singer Bjork as part of the growing ‘banned’ list which also includes Oasis and Maroon 5.
Since the 2008 release of The Fame, Lady Gaga has toured regularly through to her last album Cheek to Cheek in 2014. Gaga performed ‘Til it Happens to You’ at the Oscars – co-written with Diane Warren – for the documentary 2015 film The Hunting Ground.
Is this a Bad Romance for Lady Gaga and China?
