Weeks after winning Top Rap Artist at the Billboard Music Awards (see our article celebrating this success here), Drake is set to lose his Number One spot in the official singles charts. ‘One Dance’ has now moved down to Number Four.
Who is Kungs I hear readers ask?
Kungs’ single entitled ‘This Girl’ by Kungs Vs Cookin’ on 3 Burners is set to take over the top spot. This remix of the 2009 version by the Australian outift Cookin’ on 3 Burners has been released by French producer Kungs and has spread popularly across Europe and will perhaps be a strong summer anthem.
Justin Timberlake remains at Number Two with ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ followed by a new entry from Stones Roses’ ‘Beautiful Thing’.
This is a huge step in the Kungs’ career. Making music since 2013, he describes his progression in the music industry:
“I was making some tracks on my laptop when I was back from school every evening. I started to think I could make a career when I saw that I had 500,000 plays in total on my SoundCloud account. I remember the reaction of my father, which was priceless. I’m lucky to enough to have a family which supports me in my career and in all my personal choices.”
Coming from the bustling Aix-en-Provence, Kungs describes the influences over his genre of Deep House music:
“My inspirations were more electronic with artists like Joris Delacroix, Chet Faker, or Nicolas Jaar, with all the classics like FlicFlac, Krono or Klingande.”
So as Drake and the genre of rap leave the dominance of the last nine weeks, we will continue to follow the progress of Kungs and view how much a rival Deep House can have on the UK music scene and throughout Europe. Watch the potentially massive single ‘This Girl’ below:
