Kim Deal, a member of the former band the Pixies, has announced a tour to promote her first solo album, “Nobody Loves You More,” which was released today (November 22). She will perform at The Barbican Hall in London on March 1, 2025.
Deal is widely known as an original member of the alternative rock band Pixies, where she was a bassist and co-vocalist. The tour announcement comes alongside her first solo album release. Following a show in Chicago on album release day, she will start touring in March 2025, beginning with a show in London. She will then perform a string of shows across her native US and just two shows in Europe.
Upon joining the Pixies in 1986, Deal used the stage name Mrs. John Murphy, and performed with them from 1986 to 1993, releasing albums “Come on Surfer”, “Pilgrim Rosa” and “Doolittle”. During the hiatus, she formed another band called the Breeders in 1989, with Tanya Donelly, Josephine Wiggs and Britt Walford, who were all members of other bands prior to this. Later Deal’s twin sister would join the band, replacing Donelly. It was due to her twin sister’s drug rehabilitation that the Breeders went on hiatus. She then performed under another stage name Tammy Ampersand for a time. Later Deal would reform the Breeders to release “Title TK” (2002) and “Mountain Battles” (2008), and also reunite with the Pixies when they reformed in 2004.
After a string of solo singles such as, “Walking with a Killer” (2012), “Hot Shot” (2013), “Are You Mine?” (2013) and “Beautiful Moon Clear” (2014), Deal didn’t release any solo work for another ten years until this year when she put out “Coast” (2024). This song is included on the track list for her album, with ten other songs making the album 11 songs long. “Nobody Loves You More” is the album’s name and the lead single. The album boasts a decidedly more pop sound than her previous group work and has garnered some high-standing reviews.
The Guardian rates the album 4 out of 5 stars, focussing particularly on the two pre released songs “Coast” and “Nobody Loves You More”. According to their official review, “Throughout, Deal’s authorial voice remains constant, her mellifluous pop often undercut by gnarlier interference. But there are late-career surprises – none finer than the strings arrangements that arrive on the pristine title track, or the horns that punctuate Coast.” NME also gave the album 4 out of 5 stars, saying, “That microcosm is the exact beauty of ‘Nobody Loves You More’, which combines her strengths with her evergreen knack of embracing the moment into a collection that exudes maturity and class.”
With such high praise, anticipation for shows is likely to increase! Ticketing information for the UK show can be found here. The rest of the tour information can be found here, on the official Kim Deal website.
