Kanye West has cancelled the European and UK leg of his ‘Saint Pablo’ Tour before it was even officially announced, according to TMZ.
Although the rapper had not yet actually announced any dates in this part of the world, it was widely expected that he would do so soon. He spoke to BBC Radio One DJ Annie Mac back in August about the possibility of extending the tour to the continent. He said, ‘We’re putting together the tour right now, and I’m just excited to play with different kind of melodies [and create] the story of the tour.’ As for the UK, Kanye said it would ‘definitely’ be arriving on these shores, adding, ‘Whenever I’m in London, whenever I’m in Paris or in Germany, I feel an amount of love, respect and appreciation more than when I’m in America. It’s something where people look at musicians like artists.’ Reports suggest that Paris, Germany and the UK were among the dates for the European leg. That is until, according to TMZ, he contacted his promoter Live Nation to inform them there would be no dates announced.
West stopped the US leg of the Tour when he was hospitalised earlier this year after suffering what was reportedly a temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration for which he was rushed to UCLA Medical Center; mxdwn.co.uk covered the story in full here. Although Kanye was released from hospital after a week, there is, as yet, no schedule for the restart of the Tour and indeed many outlets are speculating that West has simply opted to scrap the Tour. TMZ reports that Kanye has an insurance policy which provides cover against any loss of income from cancellations due to medical conditions. Compared to the problems the cancellation of his US Tour caused, this has been a relatively minor disruption as no dates had actually been announced and so no tickets had been sold.
Since the cancellation of his Tour Kanye has kept a relatively low-profile, presumably preferring to rest and recuperate from his illness, although he did visit President-Elect Donald Trump last week. On the musical front, Kanye did appear on Yo Gotti’s new track, ‘Castro’, along with 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Quavo which was released last week. That’s the only solid news and releases we have from West but a number of outlets, including Spin have reported that Kanye has been in the studio recording music with Pete Rock. Rock posted videos with the caption ‘playing 45s in da lab with Kanye West’. At one point the video shows a piece of paper with titles written on it – which is suspiciously similar to the way in which West previewed the tracklist for ‘The Life of Pablo’. Spin reports that Kanye’s next album is tentatively entitled ‘Turbo Grafx 16’. You can see the list of names below, which seems to have a strong video game theme to go along with the album title.
