English singer-songwriter Jorja Smith has released a new project called ‘Be Right Back’. The eight-track collection features singles released earlier in the year such as ‘Addicted’ and ‘Gone’. Smith has also released a music video for ‘Bussdown’, featuring South London-based rapper Shaybo, which was directed by Fenn O’Meally.
The album has received positive reviews, with NME writing “she’s shared a collection that should leave you itching for her next step”, Dork “it’s a perfectly distilled example of what she does best”, whereas Variety has commented that “‘Be Right Back’ contains several strong songs, it is indeed a half-step, with some tracks suggesting promising new directions while others sound like demos or unfinished ideas.”

When questioned about the title, the singer said that it reflects the past year affected by the Covid-19 pandemic: “It’s called be right back because it’s just something I want my fans to have right now, this isn’t an album and these songs wouldn’t have made it. If I needed to make these songs, then someone needs to hear them too.”
Jorja Smith has released one debut album thus far – ‘Lost & Found’ in 2018, which was nominated for a Mercury Prize, was certified gold by BPI and went to number 3 in the UK Albums Chart. She was also named Best British Female Artist at the 2019 Brit Awards and nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys in 2019.
Smith had to cancel her tour in 2020 due to the pandemic, but she will perform at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. She will also hold a concert at London’s Victoria Park on the 27th and the 28th of August this summer. On the 22nd of May, Smith is due to play at Glastonbury Festival’s ‘Live at Worthy Farm’ global live stream along with Coldplay, Wolf Alice, Haim and IDLES.
