Croydon artist Jords launches his new social enterprise, Pickni uniforms alongside Universal Music UK task force for meaningful change.
The initiative will start in the rapper’s hometown, Croydon, and will provide hundreds of secondary school students who receive free school meals with a free school blazer, often the most expensive part of the school uniform by a sizable amount.
The 27-year-old shared the information on his Instagram, thanking Universal Music taskforce for helping kickstart the initiative as well as remind his fans that “It takes a village to raise a child, and a community to raise a generation”.
According to the children’s society, the average secondary school uniform cost £337, the co-founder Jords and his friend from primary school Jamahl Rowl appeared on ITV news to talk about their new initiative. Jamahl Rowhl spoke on the impact of Marcus Rashfords initiative to feed school children during the summer holidays and said “Let’s feed off of that and be inspired by his story and apply that to uniforms”.
Jords is signed to Universal Music and in 2021 has only put out 3 pieces of music, 2 being features, one alongside AWA on the remix to her song “24/7” which also featured Lotto Ash and a feature on the Star.one track “Won’t hold back, pt.2”. The only Jords release was his track “Enemies” which featured Kadiata and RnB superstar Masego.
Jords lack of music in 2021 is no surprise after the announcement of his Pickni uniform initiative, with the 27-year-old artists having obviously been busy with bigger things than music.
