The former Razorlight frontman’s debut solo record Borrell 1 notches up sales of 594 copies in it’s first week, failing to place in the Official UK Album Charts.
After receiving moderate reviews from critics in the album’s release week (July 22), the new record from the Golden Touch singer failed to make an impact to music fans nationwide. His solo punt is now off to a less favourable start, Borrell 1 might be one for Johnny to forget already.
This news follows Borrell’s announcement earlier this week in an interview with NME that Razorlight’s record label “refused to release their final album.” After altering the line up once again, the record label wouldn’t release any new material. He later claimed “Unless I played them a Golden Touch or America they wouldn’t let me make a record.” The former frontman revealed that there may come a time where the band reconvene to record new material but will be “somewhere in the future.” Razorlight are currently on hiatus.
Borrell recorded his debut solo album Borrell 1, with French band Zazou who he has been playing and touring with for several months. The album includes the single Pan European Super Model (Oh Gina!) also featuring tracks Erotic Letter and Ladder To Your Bed.
Borrell 1 is out now on Universal Music.
