Indie singer-songwriter Jake Bugg has announced his much anticipated sophomore album, ‘Shangri-La’, and released its debut single, ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’.
The 19 year old bard from Nottingham stands as one of last years most notable musical success stories. Having played the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury in 2011 and received a subsequent deal with Mercury Records, Bugg (real name Jacob Kennedy) shot to fame in 2012 with a series of catchy indie-folk singles including, ‘Trouble Town’, ‘Two Fingers’, ‘Lightning Bolt’ and the IPA ballad, ‘Country Song’, and released his self-titled debut album in October 2012. The album received rave reviews, with critics calling Bugg a ‘Midlands Dylan’, and noting his songwriting as unusually deep and introspective for his tender years. ‘Jake Bugg’ debuted at no1 on the UK albums chart and was nominated last week for the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Not one to rest on his laurels, having spent the summer of 2013 playing numerous festivals including Reading and Leeds, and a mainstage slot at Glastonbury, Bugg announced the completion of his second album on September 8th, and has confirmed its release for November 18th.
