21st April 2021 sees the anniversary for British songwriter and producer Jai Paul’s first single. The song titled ‘BTSTU’ arrived on this day in 2011 to mass critical acclaim. It was in his own house that Jai would go on to influence a whole generation of producers with his side-chaining techniques, leading to some notable nods from superstars, including Canadian hitmaker Drake sampling the record for his track ‘Dreams Money Can Buy’. Since the release of BTSTU and another cult classic ‘jasmine’ in 2012 Jai Paul has remained inactive as a recording artist. This was believed to be due to his highly anticipated project being leaked.
In a recent spur of activity from 2019 onward, Jai has since released the whole leaked mixtape ‘Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)’ onto streaming services, including two completely new tracks ‘Do You Love Her Now / He’. It is with this ten year anniversary that Jai continues to acknowledge his original fans with the relaunch of his old MySpace page. A social media site the unsigned artist at the time found great success on. The relaunched page remains virtually untouched, still displaying content such as his old demos, and a list of influences which include musicians Whitney Houston, D’Angelo, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Charanjit Singh and The Prodigy. The MySpace page also contains hidden links, one of which to a merch page containing restocked BTSTU vinyl and a shirt displaying the lyrics “don’t fuck with me” from the song celebrating ten years.
Since Jai Paul stormed onto the scene gaining notoriety from the top DJs in the country, he has played a vital role in pushing forward other artists as part of the Paul Institute along with his brother and fellow artist A.K Paul. This collective houses various artists with a similar vision and sound to them both, ushering in a new wave of talent to push their homegrown sound further. All of the signees can be found on the Top 8 Friends section of the relaunched MySpace page, which you can view here. Stream the legendary track below also.
