As of September 2021, singer and guitarist Jack White’s record label Third Man Records had opened a new location in London, simply called “Third Man London”. As of February 10th, the label announced its first signing; London indie rock quartet Island of Love, who will be releasing their new E.P. Songs of Love on March 18th. You can listen to the group’s newest single- the titular track from the upcoming E.P.- down below.
Third Man Records was founded in Detroit, Michigan in 2001, and expanded to Nashville, Tennessee in March of 2009, when the label’s first physical retail location was opened. The Nashville location also features the label offices and a live venue, where Jack White debuted his project The Dead Weather to a small audience of 150 people. Since the label’s inception, it has released a great deal of music from a myriad different genres, such as Bob Dylan, Sleep, Boris, Coldplay, Tenacious D and even non-music releases such as comedian Dave Chappelle’s special 8:46.
In 2015, fourteen years after the label was initially founded, Jack White partnered with a lifestyle brand called Shinola in order to open a new location in Detroit, Michigan. The location was officially opened on November 27th, 2015. For more details about Third Man Records, you can check out their website here, and for anyone wishing to pay a visit to the label’s London store, you’ll find it on 1 Marshall Street in Soho.
Third Man London’s first signing, Island of Love, are set to release their new E.P. on March 18th, and on July 1st, will be releasing a 7” vinyl through the label. According to a press release, the band said of their forthcoming E.P: “Songs of Love was a collage of pretty wacky riffs Karim would play as guitar warm-ups until writing with the full band,” the band says. “Dealing with feelings of inadequacy, the lyrics shine a light on a way most of us felt before picking up an instrument, and the voice it’s since been able to give us. To have Third Man show an interest has been a surreal privilege to say the least.”
For those that like what they hear, the E.P. will be available on all streaming services including Bandcamp and can be pre-saved here. The limited edition 7” vinyl is also available to pre-order through the group’s Bandcamp page, which can be found at this link.
