IDLES have been confirmed to perform at a new UK festival this autumn, the new London event Wide Awake is set to take place on 3rd September 2021.
The Bristol formed rockers will perform an afternoon show at the event and will accompany a full line-up of other acts. With only a week away until its inaugural event, the festival took to their Instagram to countdown until commencement whilst announcing the day’s full line-up.
Wide Awake’s organiser Marcus Weedon has provided the following statement expressing his excitement for the event. “We’re incredibly excited to finally be able to bring this very special show to London this September, It’s been a tough year for everyone, not least the festival and event industry, and we have been working very hard to ensure Wide Awake is brilliantly curated with the safety of everyone at the forefront. We cannot wait to open our gates and welcome both fans and artists in what is going to be an incredibly special event this year.”
The one-day musical event will be held at London’s Brockwell park and will be making its debut run this year. The festival is the mastermind of the co-founders behind Field Day, the new festival was originally meant to take place last year but due to the COVID-19 restrictions still in place, the event was pushed back until this year. The festival can take place this year due to the announcement from the UK government confirming that social restrictions are aimed to be lifted by 21st June 2021, although the restrictions were lifted the roadmap implemented depends on the success of the vaccination process.
A statement on the festival’s website describes the event further and what ticket-holders can expect in September. “Bringing together notes from the underground, Wide Awake, is a festival for music fans looking for something different. Expect leftfield Indie, Post Punk, Electronica, Techno, Jazz and more from an array of artists you won’t find anywhere else at a festival in London. The 2021 show features the likes of black midi, Tinariwen, Dream Wife, Tropical Fuck Storm and Songhoy Blues, as well as electronic curation from Daniel Avery and many more. See full line-up here. Wide Awake grew out of Test Pressing Festival and is brought to you by Bad Vibrations, LNZRT and SC&P, some of the original Field Day and Dimensions festivals founders and the people behind MOTH Club, The Shacklewell Arms, The Waiting Room and Peckham Audio, Wide Awake’s a party for people who care… about music and more.”
A press release about the new event states the new event’s environmentally conscious standing and confirms the measures put in place at the London festival to enforce the eco-focused rules.
“Wide Awake has already committed to bury zero waste in the landfill sites and leave no trace of litter. They have banned single-use plastic, will only allow compostable packaging and cutlery onsite, all traders and back of house waste will be recycled and the stage effects will be biodegradable.
