Madrid all-female garage band Hinds will begin their UK tour in Cambridge in Junction 2 on Monday February 15th.
Since leaving Madrid Hinds female foursome has constantly been touring. Originally formed by two friends Carlotta Cosials and Ana Garcia Perrote (both vocals, guitar), they initially began as a cover act. Then known as Deers, Hinds changed their name with a clash with Montreal band The Dears.
Grungy guitar and congruous vocals, Hinds are reminiscent of The Breeders (formed by Kim Deal of Pixies). The Breeders’ 1993 hit ‘Cannonball’ is worth a revisit to see where Hinds could find themselves as they continue to musically develop with their committed hard work. In an interview with Loud and Quiet tabloid, singer Cosials told interviewer Dominic Haley, “Even before we started this band we all worked really very hard on the things we were doing in our lives. We have a real passion for what we do, and it makes you want to put the hours in. We’re constantly asking how we can improve, how we can be better.”
Hinds has complained of sexism: apparently some gig-goers still have an issue with an all-female rock group. Much of the negativity was coordinated via social media. Hinds simply focus on the positive and immediate reaction exhibited from the vast, agreeable crowds. Hinds have no time for negativity, they are far too busy.
Continuing with the positives, recently Hinds has announced their return to Asia in the Spring and were also delighted to list the increasing number of European destinations to sell out.
Debut album Leave me Alone was created to illustrate the sound of the live music party atmosphere. Hinds are indeed on a party; an energy generating excitement across the world.
Their motto, nuestras mierdas, nuestras reglas is left for you to translate. When you do you’ll get a veracious sense of what this band represent. After Cambridge, Hinds’ UK tour continues:
16/2 Norwich – Arts Centre 17/2 Nottingham – Rescue Rooms
18/2 London – KOKO 20/2 Manchester – Gorilla
21/2 Glasgow – Stereo 22/2 Leeds – Brudenell Social Club
23/2 Birmingham – Hare & Hounds 24/2 Bristol – The Fleece
25/2 Brighton – Patterns.
Europe commences after the UK in Amsterdam. A busy year to come for the Madrid four.
