Headie One has linked up with fellow Tottenham MC, Skepta to release the visuals for their new track ‘Back To Basics’. This is the third single from his highly anticipated project releasing this summer, Music X Road.
The mellow beat along with the classic grime high-pitched vocal samples, allow Headie One and Skepta to go back to back with heat. The boastful bars explore their lifestyles of stardom, but express they’re also ready to put it all behind and go back to basics “Gang can’t sleep on a violation, swear, I’ma spend all my savings”.
Directed by Hugo Jenkins of Black Dog Films, the minimalist aesthetic compliments the ‘Back To Basics’ narrative. Shot on the roof of a building with a typical British grey sky backdrop and on the ground posted in the middle of narrow roads amongst terrace houses, Hugo Jenkins captures the true essence of London.
On June 9th it was announced via Instagram that Headie One’s new project, Music X Road would be released this summer. Signing with Sony’s Relentless Records label, he has already had an exceptional year so far, from performing at Glastonbury to hanging out with Virgil Abloh at Paris Fashion Week. The first single off the upcoming project, ‘18HUNNA’ reached #6 on the U.K Singles Chart, demonstrating the dominance of homegrown rap in the mainstream.
As if Glastonbury wasn’t enough for Headie One, he’ll also be performing at Wireless Festival this weekend, Reading Festival in August and will be headlining the Music X Road Tour in October/November.
