Drill superstar Headie One has announced an upcoming album, named ‘Edna‘. He has yet to release the album’s release date or track list.
‘Edna’ looks set to be a nostalgic project because Headie named it after his mother. It is rapper’s first studio album. However he has released a string of mix-tapes in the past, such as ‘Gang‘ (2020) and ‘Music x Road‘ (2019).
The rapper announced his forthcoming album with a post on Twitter. Details however were scarce. He only revealed the album’s name and artwork. The artwork pictures the rapper, shrouded in black and white, cradling an indistinct object in his hands. This suggests that the object is personal, foreshadowing an album in which the rapper’s insecurities are laid bare.
Headie One has been in the news recently, following the release of a freestyle with Canadian megastar Drake. His recent releases affirm his upward trajectory. Drake described his as the ‘best drill artist in the world‘, following the freestyle’s release.
However, it has been a tough year for the rapper. He served a four-month prison sentence over Spring which he described as, in an interview with The Guardian, ‘like going back in time’. ‘Those kind of situations was my normality years ago. It was a wakeup call that it really is a thin line – one wrong move and it’s all over, it’s back to what you used to dream to get out of‘, Headie explained.
‘Edna‘ promises to be Headie One’s redemption. The album artwork suggests that his first studio album is set to be a vulnerable project, as the rapper looks to recover from life-changing circumstances .
