Last night Harry Styles released an official video for the song ‘Golden,’ which is one of the tracks from his latest album ‘Fine Line.’ Despite premiering on Youtube less than 24 hours ago, the video has already clocked over 14 million views and is #1 on trending. The video was directed by Ben Turner and Gabe Turner and produced by London studio Fulwell 73.
The video takes a unique approach by featuring only the singer himself in various outfits and scenarios rather than incorporating a whole cast of actors or dancers to feature alongside him. This makes the video seem very introspective and reflects the current atmosphere in the UK very well, especially in northern areas like Greater Manchester, where Harry Styles is from, where many people are living with very strict lockdown rules which prevent social interactions. In some way, Harry Styles here seems to be showing some solidarity with the North.
According to Official Charts, ‘Fine Line reached Number 1 on the UK’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart,’ when it was released in December 2019 and since its release a number of tracks from the album have been made into single releases, including the release of music videos for the tracks online. ‘Lights Up, Adore You, Watermelon Sugar and Falling,’ all received single releases and have performed well in the UK singles chart. It is highly likely that ‘Golden,’ will perform similarly well, with the video already causing a stir online.
The news of the video’s release was announced by Harry Styles’ record label Sony Music UK on their instagram page following an earlier post which gave fans a two hour warning before the video released, giving fans a chance to get ready stream the video as soon as it premiered. The skilful releasing of music videos on Youtube is a clever strategy which Styles and his label have developed as a way to tide fans over until they can see him on tour in the new year.
Harry Styles has not disappointed fans throughout the lockdown period with content regularly appearing on his Youtube channel including music videos for the ‘Adore You,’ ‘Falling,’ and ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ plus live footage from his 2019 performances in the US and in London for the 2020 BRIT awards. On top of all that, he also released behind the scenes footage, a special Lost Tour psychedelic visual for ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ as well as a short teaser before his most recent video for ‘Golden.’
