The Ivors Academy has revealed nominations for this year awards. The winners will be announced at the 66th Ivor Novello Awards on 21st September.
“The Ivors with Apple Music is UK’s foremost celebration of creative excellence in songwriting and scree composition“. They were first presented in 1956 and each Ivor is unique as it represents peer recognition within different categories. Each category is judged by a panel of award-winning songwriters and composers.
The ceremony honour songwriting “across commercial releases and screen composition across film, television and video games released in the UK during 2020“.
Harry Styles, a former One Direction member and his writing partner Kid Harpoon leading the way with three nominations in two categories. Their songs “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You” are both shortlisted for the award this year.

Lewis Capaldi also has two songs nominated: “Before You Go” and “Semone You Loved“. Other artists nominated for songwriter of the year are AJ Tracey, Celeste and Jamie Hartman, Kamille and MNEK.
More than half of this year nominees are artists who have been recognised for the first time like Laura Marling or Mahalia. Arlo Parks who received the Best New Artist award earlier this year at the Brit Awards is also nominated for “Black Dog” in the best song musically sie lyrically category.
Shaznay Lewis from All Saints, an Ivor Novello winner and part of the committee commented: “Over the last year we’ve felt the power of songwriting and the stories told through music. The Ivors are so important because they celebrate where all the music begins – with songwriters and composers“.
“The judges have chosen a selection of exceptional music that moves, unites and inspires us” she added.
