“Gonna stamp out your fire, he can change your desire, Don’t you know he can make you forget you’re a man, you’re a man….” Get your maracas out and go find your ‘Bez’. Yesterday Monday got a little bit happier, as the Madchester legends took to Twitter to announce a new mammoth 30 date UK tour coming this winter. The tour sees the band together to celebrate their greatest hits, and will begin in Inverness and End in Lincoln. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

In a press release frontman Shaun Ryder said “Be great to be back out on the road with Happy Mondays for some pre-Christmas partying”, and that he’s “Looking forward to playing all the hits and more at these shows.” These were sentiments shared by Rowetta who said “I’m really looking forward to this tour, almost 30 years since I first got on stage with the Mondays. The band and the fans are like family to me and I still love singing these songs as much as I did in 1990.” Whilst everyone’s favourite Bez added “[I’m] Really excited and looking forward to the Happy Mondays tour – can’t wait to do some freaky dancing”.

Made up of Shaun Ryder (frontman and vocals) , Bez (vipe-master and maracas), Rowetta (vocals), Gary Whelan (drums), Paul Ryder (bass), Mark Day (guitar) and Dan Broad (MD/guitar/keys) The Happy Mondays signed to Factory Records in the 1980s and are one of the most iconic bands of the 1990s and the ‘Madchester sound’. They have released five albums, the most famous of these being 1990s ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’ and in 2016 even won an Ivor Novello Award for inspiration, a prestigious award for the ’24 hour party people’
The band also announced that Shaun Ryder would be releasing his latest lyric book, available for purchase on the 7th of March. The book will feature a selection of Happy Mondays and Black Grape lyrics, and can be preordered now. It’s all part of a big year for the Happy Mondays, who have also been announced to be headlining Penn Fest alongside Suede this July, with more festival slots rumoured including, of course, a potential Glastonbury return.
