The alternative-rock band HAIM has premiered a new single ‘Hallelujah’ alongside a music video. The track is the third release from the band’s upcoming third album.
After receiving praise from ‘Now I’m in It’—the song that the band describes as ‘the most haim haimy haim song ever written’—yesterday, the HAIM sisters revealed another look into their new music with a single called ‘Hallelujah’. The song is produced by HAIM’s frequent collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid, who is behind the success of ‘Days Are Gone’ (2013) and ‘Something to Tell You’ (2017). The trio also co-writes this latest track with Tobias Jasso Jr., a Canadian singer/songwriter who writes a massive number of hits for big names like Adele, Florence + The Machine, Niall Horan, P!nk, and Shawn Mendes.
‘Hallelujah’ is inspired by the members’ two major incidents in their lives. Prior to the release of the song, the youngest Alana Haim composed a lengthy note about how her verse in ‘Hallelujah’ pays tribute to her best friend who passed away in a tragic car accident:
We have a song called hallelujah coming out on Monday. It’s a song about family, love, loss, and being thankful for it all. It’s hard to talk about my verse in the song but I wanted to open up about it so here i go… pic.twitter.com/0KqdNx7syq

The eldest sister Este shared a post narrating the story about her battle with type 1 diabetes, which inspires the song as well:
our new song hallelujah comes out tomorrow. this song is for anyone struggling with chronic illness and the people around us who we truly rely on for help and guidance. pic.twitter.com/xd6wBOuAli

Meanwhile, the lead singer Danielle also explained her verse in the track as a celebration of sisterhood that further helps shape the song’s visual:
HALLELUJAH OUT NOW. my verse is about our relationship as sisters. that feeling of knowing what your sibling is gonna do or say before they do it. Sibling telepathy is a real thing!!!! that is what inspired the concept for this video. pic.twitter.com/hAyfcHZNjh

Accompanying the premier of the track, the Californian sisters debuted a music video as well. The video is, again, directed by the acclaimed American filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson who directs both of HAIM’s previous two singles, ‘Summer Girl’ and ‘Now I’m in It’, and several live videos of the songs from the ‘Something to Tell You’ era.
