Gus Dapperton, a singer-songwriter from New York, has announced the return to the scene with a sophomore record called ‘Orca.‘ The album is due for the release on September 18 via London-based indie record label AWAL Recordings. “Post Humorous” is picked to properly lead Dapperton’s brand-new era, which is also served with a guest-packed music video.
“Post Humorous” is actually a follow-up to the “First Aid” track dropped back in April, which the indie singer teased as the first preview of his new album. “In the past, I’ve written my songs from a place of love and heartbreak. This album is about internal pain and suffering,” Dapperton told The Line of Best Fit.
Produced by the singer himself, the latest tune is a breezy indie pop set in opposition to dark lyrics about depression and a journey to find happiness. The video features appearances from various guests with the likes of Dapperton’s very own sister Amadelle, photographer Jess Farran, director Matthew Thomas Dillon, skater Erik Arteaga, musicians BENEE, Remi Wolf, Orion Sun, Santi, and many more.
‘Orca‘ is the upcoming studio album following 2019’s debut ‘Where Polly People Go to Read.‘ The LP will contain ten tracks, including singles “First Aid” and “Post Humorous.” Australian emerging indie singer Chela also appears as a guest feature on the track “My Say So.”
About the forthcoming LP, Dapperton stated through a press release taken from Dork that it is all about the exploration of “human pain and suffering, but also healing and redemption.” The 23-year-old also added, “I was unbalanced. My lifestyle and habits had gotten extreme. I wasn’t getting eight hours of sleep a night, I was drinking and doing drugs often. Wasn’t eating healthy. And on top of it, I was performing. A show can be the most inspirational, emotional high; but if something goes wrong it can be devastating.”
Dapperton is also known for global smash hit “Supalonely” by New Zealand dreampop phenomenon BENEE. The track has gone viral on the ubiquitous TikTok due to its infectious hook of “la-la-la-la” and relatable lyrics about loneliness and toxic relationships. Dapperton lent his vocal on the track, adding more indie dimension for the song.
