Following it’s enormous success earlier this year, Guns N’ Roses reunion tour finally appears to be close to announcing some long-rumoured European dates, with the Irish Times reporting that the band are set to begin the European leg with a huge show at the 82,000 capacity Croke Park, in July next year, and that the gig “should be confirmed before Christmas.”.
The initial reunion, which marked the return of both Slash and bassist Duff McKagan alongside Axl Rose, took place with some dates in April this year, including a headline slot at Coachella. The ‘Not In This Lifetime… Tour’ then hit the road across America more extensively throughout July and August. The band are currently touring Central and South America, having also recently announced dates in Japan, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Dubai for next year.
Question marks had been hovering over the band’s seeming neglect of Europe for a while, with some fans frustrated when the strong rumours of Guns N’ Roses headlining this year’s Download Festival proved to be incorrect. As of September this year, NME reported that the tour had grossed $116.8m/£88m over the course of just 25 dates, with he shows being attended by over a million total fans.
Despite this recent momentum, things haven’t been completely perfect for the band, with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett reacting rather dismissively to the band’s reunion, suggesting that Guns N’ Roses were “A nostalgia act”, which was “kinda sad”. Prior to this month, and the release of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, neither Metallica nor Guns N’ Roses had released an album since 2008.
