According to guitarist Richard Fortus, Guns N’ Roses are in talks of making new music. Last year saw the classic rock group reunite with original band members Duff McKagan and Slash for the first time in 20 years. The band has not released any new music since 2008’s ‘Chinese Democracy’ whilst McKagan and Slash haven’t featured on a record since 1993’s ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’
Fortus became a member of GnR in 2002 after the departure of guitarist Paul Tobias due to the stress of touring. Since then, Fortus plays rhythm and occasionally lead guitar for the band.
Speaking on the stageleft podcast about the idea of making a new GnR album, Fortus said: “We’ve been recording a lot of stuff, just ideas, assembling ideas, but not going into a studio and actually tracking a new record.”
However, he also added “It’s sort of too good not to happen at this point, that’s how I feel about it. This band is really a force right now, and I definitely hope that we do, and I think we’re all sort of counting on it, and we’re also planning on it.”
Guns N’ Roses fans know how long it can take for the group to get from start to finish with new music, with ‘Chinese Democracy’ initially due for release in 1990-2000. The band has also extended their 2017 “Not In This Lifetime” tour, keeping them on the road until November, so it’s unlikely that there will be new music released anytime soon.
Guns N’ Roses are playing at the London Stadium as part of their tour on June 16th and 17th.
