Former My Chemical Romance guitarist and Frank Iero & The Patience frontman took to Instagram yesterday to hint at an upcoming project, which he said would involve collaborating with some ‘surprise’ musicians.
Frank released his Keep The Coffins Coming EP only last year, which followed hot on the tails of his full-length 2016 effort Parachutes. This latest announcement suggests a follow-up may not be far off, as he made sure to mention that ‘demos are afoot, and [he] can’t stop grinning like a fuhking maniacal idiot’,
As for the mystery musicians, he’s keeping the names close to his chest for now, but we do know that they are people he has respected and wanted to work with for ‘over 10 years’. Given his outspoken love for bands like The Misfits and Black Flag, speculation has arisen that the people he’s so ‘privileged and honoured to get to play with’ might be a part of the punk scene, but aside from that there’s no telling.
The update came in the form of a lengthy Instagram post, which also featured an odd anecdote about a frog Iero caught and released from his home. There was even an image of the creature, which Frank affectionately named Fred Savage, along with the hope that he was currently in the wild ‘smoking frog cigarettes, in a professional building for frogs, talking to a frog therapist about his bizarre abduction experience’.
Whether the stream of consciousness ramble contained any cryptic clues remains to be seen, but the update was well-received by fans none the less. Plus, Frank promised to release more info about this ‘next chapter’ when the time comes, telling his fans to ‘stay tuned’ as there was ‘so much more’ he didn’t want to ‘bombard’ them with all at once.
