Singer Aston Merrygold, former member of the boy band JLS, has released a new song ‘Share a Coke’. This is his second single this year with ‘Overboard’ released on 12th February released the day before his performance on ‘The Masked Singer’ final. ‘Share a Coke’ premiered on BBC Radio 1 ahead of the hugely anticipated JLS reunion tour.
Aston Merrygold talked about the latest single, saying: “It’s been an incredibly tough 12 months for so many people, and what’s been so clear to me is just how much we all miss being with our family, friends, relatives, colleagues on a daily basis. Human interaction is so important to us all. ’Share A Coke’ is about something that none of us will ever take for granted again, just enjoying a moment, sharing a drink, having a chat, and that longing for it to return soon.”
JLS were the runners-up on the fifth season of The X Factor in 2008 and many of their singles went to number one in the UK Singles Chart, including ‘Beat Again’ and ‘Everybody In Love’. After seven years together, they split in 2013. However, Aston Merrygold has remained under the spotlight with his solo career including his hit single in 2015 ‘Get Stupid’ and as a contestant on the fifteenth series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The four-member band announced a reunion tour ‘Beat Again’ in February 2020, scheduled for November that year however it was postponed to June 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Former member Marvin Humes said that he has been trying for years to make a reunion happen: “We always knew we were going to come back. One day, we agreed, it’s time. You’re going to get all the songs and moves you know and love, and the backflips. I missed the feeling of being in a band. It feels like coming home. These boys are my brothers.”
