It has been announced from this year’s Met Gala that Florence + The Machine will be the musical guest to perform at the event. It will be held virtually today (May 4) via Vogue’s Youtube channel at 6pm ET (11pm BST), under the title ‘A Moment with the Met‘.
Every year, the Met Gala takes place on the first Monday of May at Metropolitan Museum of Art, Costume Institute, New York. As one of the biggest and most renowned fundraising ceremonies, it never fails to cause a ginormous stir in both the real and virtual worlds thanks to the appearances of wide-ranging celebrities attending the event with their eleganza-extravaganza, bizarre costumes.
Unfortunately, the global pandemic of COVID-19 has come into our ways to witness this year’s awe-inspiring gala. Earlier, the organisers announced the postponement of the Met Gala 2020, and it also means that the ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’ exhibition set to take place is pushed back as well. The new date of the event has not yet been confirmed.
Despite all difficulties, the gala will continue to grace us with a virtual event hosted by Vogue. Titling the event ‘A Moment with the Met‘, Vogue will exhibit a livestream video that recaps the fabulous fashions of previous stars who showed up at the Ball. Moreover, there will be the premier of new videos featuring A-listed celebs with the likes of Cardi B, Naomi Campbell, Liv Tyler, Stella McCartney and Liza Koshy.
In addition to the fashion, the event will also book the alternative queen Florence Welch and her Machine to perform. In the meantime, Virgil Abloh—Kanye West’s fashion collaborator—will play a DJ set.
Vogue editor-in-chief and Met Gala co-chair Anna Wintour, according to Variety, stated about this year’s virtual edition of the Met Gala: “It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways. So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”
Elsewhere, the “Shake It Out” hitmaker just dropped a charity single called “Light of Love“. The song is aimed to raise funds for the Intensive Care Society, who contribute care and support for the frontline NHS workers. Welch spoke of the song that it is “about the world coming at you so fast and you feel like you won’t survive it, but in actually bearing witness to the world as it is, it’s really the only place you can be of service.”
“Light of Love” is the band’s latest work after the release of the droplet “Moderation” back in January 2019. They also shared the fourth studio album ‘High as Hope‘ in 2018.
