The message is: book quickly. The 20th anniversary event for 2016 was totally sold out. Therefore as early acts for 2017 are initially announced, it is advised to book Early Bird tickets – see how to do this here.
The 20th anniversary welcomed around 10,000 fans over four days, and seven stages of punk rock. This was 40 years since the initial punk explosion in 1976 – what us young ones would give to have experienced that!
We still can in 2017! There were 357 performances which featured bands, acoustics, poets, speakers, which totalled a massive number of 52 hours 55mins of culture.
Where do we start for 2016? Descendents headlined the opening night treating fans to their only UK show of the year; Manchester’s pre-punk band Slaughter & The Dogs performing as their original line-up (performing a David Bowie tribute); Dag Nasty from Dischord Records making their highly anticipated UK debut – celebrating The Ruts; covering ‘Staring at the Rudeboys’. Then the crowd were treated by Peter Hook and the Light performed a wonderful tribute to the legendary Joy Division on the Opera House stage.
There was more . . . Cock Sparrer, FLAG, The Dammed, Buzzcocks, Jello Biafra with his Guantanamo School of Medicine, and, finally, a superlative closing performance from Stiff Little Fingers.
And . . . breathe! Because of this, organisers – whom have had little time to since this anniversary 2016 success – have put their sole focus for 2017. And so their full attention is continuing this momentum. The organisers said of 2017:
“we already have some big names on our ‘wish list’ for 2017 and have no intention of slowing down. We want to take the things that worked this year and tweak and improve them to keep Rebellion as THE punk festival to go to. We’re still a 100% family run, DIY festival so there’s a lot of work ahead but it’s what we do and seeing the smile on everyone’s faces this year makes it all worthwhile”.
So, how do we get there? A limited 500 tickets for 2017 were on sale at the box office recently and were quickly sold. Early bird tickets for Rebellion 2017 are available to pre-order for £145, with a pay-monthly offer also launching on September 1st, helping fans to get their weekend ticket over easy instalments of £15 per month just for an £18 deposit.
