Pop music icon Elton John is recovering at home today after a spell in hospital, after being diagnosed with a “harmful and unusual bacterial infection,” which caused the singer to spend several nights in intensive care. John was released on April 22, after the issue arose at an unspecified point last week.
Understandably, John, 70, has been forced to cancel a total of eight live dates, over the course of April and May, in order to fully recover from the illness, which include US dates in both Las Vegas and Bakersfield, California, but the legendary pop star looks set to return for his concert at Twickenham in London on June 3. It is thought that John contracted the illness during a recent tour of South America, and Rolling Stone describes the singer as becoming “violently ill” on a flight back from Santiago, Chile.
Dear Universe,
You took Prince & Bowie, then you stuck us with Trump. If you take Elton John just go ahead and implode.
Sincerely,
Us

The star’s management team issued a statement that “Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly […]Thankfully, Elton’s medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully, he is expected to make a full and complete recovery.”
“I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them,” John said in a statement of his own. “I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well.”
