British pop star Ed Sheeran has revealed that he is working on a new “big pop” album, set to be released in 2025. In a new interview with lifestyle magazine Variety, Sheeran confirmed that fans should be expecting a lot from him in the upcoming year. The “Lego House” singer exclusively revealed that he has already filmed not one but two music videos for the album’s rollout, and that he is planning to film at least a few more in the upcoming year. Furthermore, Sheeran has confirmed that the album is finished and ready to be released.

While Sheeran didn’t release anything in 2024, 2023 was a big year for the singer. He in fact released two full-length records, one concluding his “mathematics” series and one titled “Autumn Variations” which was Sheeran’s first release under his own recording company Gingerbread Man Records. “Autumn Variations” was released without big promos or music videos and singles, but still managed to peak at number one on UK charts in its debut week, and eventually chart for eight weeks.
In 2023, Sheeran also released the last entry to his “mathematics” collection, titled “Subtract” (“-“). It peaked at number one on its debut week and held on to the position for two weeks, then went on to spend 19 weeks in the top 100. The first single off the album, titled “Eyes Closed” was released in April and peaked at number one, while the rest of the singles have failed to achieve a significant position on charts. “Boat”, “Curtains” and “Life goes on” peaked respectively at number 15, 16 and 29.
Previously, Sheeran had achieved worldwide fame with his records “Divide”, “X” and “+“. The former spent 20 weeks at number one, charting in total for 405 weeks. “X” and “+” spent 13 and 3 weeks at number one. Adding up all of Sheeran’s projects and albums, the artist spent 1434 weeks on the top 75 albums chart in the UK, a number very high considering his first record was released less than fifteen years ago.
Sheeran has been named artist of the decade in 2010 for his contribution to the music industry and success.
Sheeran also has 14 number one songs in the UK. Memorably, off his album “Divide” (biggest album of 2017), Sheeran released “Shape of you”, one of the biggest hits of the 2010s, which held on for the number one spot for 14 weeks.
Because Sheeran has revealed that his upcoming 2025 album is “big pop stuff”, the artist will most likely go back to the upbeat classic sounds present on most of “Divide” and a few songs off his previous albums. What we know, is that it won’t be a project similar to “Autumn Variations” which had a stripped back sound and was, sonically, far from Sheeran’s previous projects.
Currently, Ed Sheeran is in the run for the Christmas number one title with two songs: a collaboration with Elton John titled “Merry Christmas” which has already won the title in 2021, and his latest release “Under the Tree”, written for Richard Curtis’s new animated Christmas movie. Recently, Sheeran has been in the public eye for a controversy regarding Band Aid 40 and his vocals being used without the artist being consulted.
