The Australian radio stations Nova and Smooth FM are going to host a Thank You Concert for frontline workers who have given their all to help the country fight the coronavirus. The event is going to take place on June 20 at 8pm (Australian time) and is featuring some of our favourite artists, such as British sweetheart Ed Sheeran. Other musicians involved include Michael Bublé, Katy Perry, local artist Amy Shark and Keith Urban, with more artists to be announced every day from 3pm on the radio stations, featuring over 20 artists in total. The full line up will be announced on Friday June 5 from 3pm Australian time.
The special event will be invitation only, with listeners of both radio stations being able to nominate people. The nomination process for people like doctors, nurses, paramedics, supermarket workers, teachers, cleaners and everyone else who has been working on the front line will begin on June 9.

Nova’s chief programming and marketing director Paul Jackson said that the event “has been created to celebrate our essential workers and all that they have done to help Australians during this global health crisis. We are so grateful that the artists involved are so giving of their time, showing their Australian fans how much they mean to them. It is Nova and smoothfm’s way of allowing listeners to say thank you to special people in their lives – through a music experience curated especially for them.”
The event will include performances, exclusive interviews and “reliving some of the best moments from ‘Nova’s Red Room’ and smooth ‘Feel Good Night With’ “and will be hosted by Nova’s Smallzy and Smooth FM’s Richard Wilkins.
Jackson told the Australian news website Mumbrella that unlike other competitions, the invitations to this event will be based on people’s emotional response. “It’s highlighting the people who have gone above and beyond and continue to do so, especially in those early weeks of going into lockdown. The focus is for them”, he says.
We agree with Jackson that honouring the hard working front line workers accordingly is a great idea and we can’t wait to find out if other UK artists are going to show their respect by joining the Thank You Concert.
