Ed Sheeran has been receiving all sorts of honours this past week. First he was named ‘Best Solo Artist’ at The Q Awards this week, and now returning to his hometown of Framlington in Suffolk he has been honoured with a doctorate and the wing of a a care home named after him.
The singer/songwriter was awarded his honorary doctorate from the University Campus Suffolk (UCS) in Ipswich for his “outstanding contribution to music” on Monday. When it was announced that he would receive the Doctorate earlier this year he said “I’ve had an amazing year with my world tour and this makes it even better. Suffolk is very much where I call home and I’m always welcomed back and get so much support.”
Sheeran left school at the age of 16 to pursue music, and in his acceptance speech stated “I’m not really the poster boy for education and I don’t know if I can give advice on that side of things. I chose something I love and worked hard at it and didn’t really listen to anyone who told me I couldn’t do something.”

Sheeran was also at the Mills Meadow Care Home in Framlingham, Suffolk for the opening ceremony of a new wing named in his honour. The new care unit is to help residents that suffer from alzhiemer’s.
As a special thanks, Care UK, who run the unit, donated £500 to a charity of the singer’s choice, which he chose to be EACH (East Anglian Children’s Hospice). The residents also gifted the singer a Lego set, in homage to Sheeran’s ‘Lego House’.
In other news the singer also recently quashed rumors that he would be headlining next year’s Glastonbury Festival, telling PA: “The next festival I do will be headlining Glastonbury, but it just won’t be next year. I want to be able to have at least three or four albums before I do it.”
