Dua Lipa has announced that her European tour which was due to take place with UK dates starting from January next year has been postponed until September. This comes as the UK government’s three tier lockdown strategy placing much of the north of England, including major cities like Manchester into tier three with the strictest possible restrictions applied. This will come as a blow to her fans who have been waiting since the release of her latest album ‘Future Nostalgia,’ in March.
The singer’s video for her single ‘Levitating,’ which features a verse from DaBaby, premiered on Youtube this month and has already reached over 20 million views. Announcing the news on her Instagram page, she wrote that ‘with a heavy heart I will be postponing my upcoming European tour to September and October 2021.’ Continuing to state, ‘I miss being on tour the most especially during this time and I can’t wait to be reuniting with you all and celebrating soon.’ She also wrote that the decision was made after closely monitoring the current situation in the UK and Europe and that it was clearly not possible to tour safely as soon as January next year.
Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating,’ has climbed in the UK singles charts this week where it currently sits at number 22, just behind Cardi B and Meghan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP,’ where it is up eight places from number 30. While it still lags behind its former peak position at number 13, the release of its official video earlier this month and its availability as a single has surely helped to push it up the charts.
The appearance of American rapper DaBaby on the track, he picked up a Grammy this year when he was awarded Best Rap Performance for his song ‘Surge,’ which has accumulated 261,790,710 views on Youtube since its release in March 2019. UK fans of the rapper will have chance to see him live when he performs at next year’s Reading and Leeds festival which takes place in August 2021.
Dua Lipa’s latest album ‘Future Nostalgia,’ which was a UK number one album for four weeks, is still performing well in the charts, where it currently sits at number 16. Fans will surely be disappointed by todays news at yet they will surely enjoy the album for another year.
The artist also promises ‘some fun things coming up that will hopefully hold you through,’ and fans will be relieved to hear that the tickets they have bought for the January dates will still be valid in September. Full UK tour dates for Dua Lipa’s postponed 2021 European tour are as follows:
