“So Many Women”, These were the words Dua Lipa said as she appeared on stage to collect her Best New Artist Award at The Grammys last night in LA. The ‘New Rules’ singer then appeared to criticise Recording Academy President Neil Portnow as she said “I guess we really stepped up this year”, a clear reference to the comments made by Portnow in 2018 when he said that women in the music industry need to “step up”. A good night turned into a great night for Dua Lipa as she became only the third British women ever to win 2 Grammys in the same night when she won the award for Best Dance Recording.
Just you, Adele and Amy Winehouse were the English female artists to win two #Grammys in the same night and you are the only Albanian that won a Grammy award. Thank you for being the best part of my life & congrats for realizing your dream! We all love you! @DUALIPA #proudofdua pic.twitter.com/CV6vDb1zOj

Speaking back stage after the show the London born singer expanded upon her comments saying, “Being in the Best New Artist category and having so many female artists nominated is a big change, and it’s a change that we hope to see for many years to come.” Later adding “It’s a big difference from previous years and I feel so grateful to have been a part of the nominations and to have seen so many women on it. I was like, ‘This is amazing!’ And it felt right because these are artists I love and I felt honored to be able to share that moment with them.”
