NME reports that Hip-Hop icon and business mogul Dr. Dre has been recruited as part of the team to promote Los Angeles’ bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games.
Dre is one of several famous sons of the city that have been nominated or selected by campaign committee LA 2024, to work on it’s board of directors.
Joining the former NWA rapper and producer will be joined on the board by former NBA great Magic Johnson and Jason Collins, as well as Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and Clippers owner Steven Balmer. The full and detailed list was released yesterday, and can be read here.
A statement made by the LA 2024 board said:”The diverse group of 117 leaders and innovators are drawn from the sports, entertainment, media, technology, higher education, business, philanthropic and public sectors in California and around the world, helping LA 2024 develop a Games plan that will serve the Olympic Movement in 2024 and beyond.”
Dr. Dre and the rest of the team will pitch their case to host the 2024 Games to the International Olympics Committee, who will cast a vote to decide the 2024 host, on September 13 in Lima, Peru.
Meanwhile, it is heavily rumoured that both Dre and long-time collaborator Snoop Dogg will be honouring former Death Row labelmate Tupac at the late, great rapper’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year.
