Isle of Wight and Download Festivals have been canceled due to Coronavirus. Two more big shows are forced to abandon their 2020 shows due to the pandemic. So, in the Isle of Wight, the festival was set to welcome acts Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Kaiser Chiefs, and Supergrass. Meanwhile, over at Donington Park, Download was opening the stages to Kiss, Iron Maiden and System of a Down.
Better still, these guys were just the headliners. So, without a doubt then, it’s a huge shame to see both Download and Isle of Wight fall to Covid 19’s unrelenting nature. Both festivals were scheduled for the middle of the summer, a traditionally thriving time for music-goers. With Download set to run from June 12-14, Isle of Wight was similarly booked from June 11-14.
Soon enough, there’ll be nothing to do at all this summer it seems. However, organizers are aiming to deliver ticket refunds to fans, or alternatively carry them over to 2021. Isle of Wight festival-goers who’ve booked Hovercraft travel have been urged to contact Red Funnel, Wightlink or Hovertravel directly.
In a statement from the Isle of Wight, they said: “We’ll be back stronger than ever in 2021 and we hope to see you all again next year”,
Isle of Wight’s council leader, Dave Stewart said: “I understand the disappointment this will bring to many people and the impact on businesses both on the Island and beyond.”
He praised festival organizers for “making the sensible choice.”
Meanwhile, over at Donington Park, Download released a statement: “This decision hasn’t been taken lightly and we’re beyond disappointed. We extend our heartfelt apologies to all of you – we really did try to make this work.”
Recently, Glastonbury 2020 was canceled. Due to headline at the fiftieth-anniversary show were Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, and Kendrick Lamar.
