It has been eleven years since Manchester’s rock icon Doves released an album. However, on January 27, the three-piece band took to their social media, updating their fans about their upcoming fifth album.
The band is currently “putting final touches to the last song for album No. 5″, as they wrote on their social media. Moreover, it seems like the “There Goes the Fear” hitmaker will start mastering the album in March, but the bad news is they still do not know when to release it. See the post below.

Doves’ last album is 2009’s Kingdom of Rust. The album debuted at number 2 on UK Albums Chart and received general positive reviews as usual. After the promotion of Kingdom of Rust, however, the three lads decided to “have a bit of breathing space”. Jimi Goodwin talked to The Daily Record back in 2010 about the hiatus:
“It’s nice just to have a bit of breathing space. We just wanted to get off that whole album-tour-album-tour treadmill. None of us are ready to face going into the studio for another two years. This is wiping the slate clean, we have nothing else in the vaults now. That is it. Whatever we do from now on will be a new start.”
This forthcoming fifth album, therefore, will eventually end the band’s lengthy hiatus. However, they already made a comeback to the spotlight with a show for the Teenage Cancer Trust last year. Their sold-out gig at Royal Albert Hall was such a sentimental return for them, as they were receiving an extensive standing ovation while frontman Jimi thanked the audience. ““It’s sold out. We’re blown away. This is incredible,” said the frontman.
In addition to the Teenage Cancer Trust gig, Doves also supported Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ concert at Heaton Park, Manchester on June 7 last year. Also, in April 2019, the “Black and White Town” group reissued their first three records on limited edition vinyl.
While there is no further details about the highly anticipated fifth album of Doves, let’s reminisce the good old days and listen to their classic below.
