dodie, real name Dodie Clark, has just dropped her newest music video for her new single Cool Girl, her first single off her debut album Build A Problem, which will be out on March 5th 2021. The video was directed by dodie and Charlie Di Placido. The video which featured absolutely stunning choreography from Miranda Chambers, depicted Dodie and other dancers telling the story of the song through interpretive dance.
Cool Girl came out on the 19th of October after being featured as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record. The intimate track tells the story of how we sometimes make ourselves smaller in order to fit into people’s perceptions of how we should be. The song was actually a last-minute addition to the album, dodie wrote the song over lockdown and recorded it once the restrictions lifted, which makes it a surprisingly perfect first single off of the album.
After two weeks of ambiguous build up on her YouTube channel, dodie announced her debut album Build A Problem by knitting a letter every day like a game of hang-man along with a collection of fun light-hearted videos. Her fans scrambled to guess what the project would be and were delighted to hear that she would be releasing her much anticipated debut album in March of next year.
When talking about writing the album, dodie said to the Metro; “I think I was going through a crisis actually, I was very unsure of who I was and I was trying to figure it out in music. So I think it’s quite unstable of an album – but it’s definitely honest.” She also added; “I’d like people to come away from this album knowing what I can do.”
dodie will also being doing a tour to support the album which will kick off on the 19th of September 2021 in the O2 Apollo in Manchester before heading to Glasgow, Birmingham, Southampton, Bristol before finishing of the UK tour in Eventim Apollo in London on the 27th of September.
dodie started as a musican on YouTube with her channel doddleoddle in 2011 which has 1.94 million followers and has since released wonderful EPs such as Intertwined in 2016, You in 2017 and Human in 2019.
