dodie, real name Dodie Clark announced last night, the 5th of January that she would be releasing her new single Hate Myself on Tuesday the 12th of January. Hate Myself will be the next single off dodie’s debut album Build a Problem which will be out the 6th of March.
This comes just days after dodie uploaded a mash up video of her, Orla Gartland, Tessa Violet and Lauren Aquilina singing their songs Cool Girl, Pretending, Games and Swap Places to her YouTube channel, all of the songs centre around insecurity. Orla Gartland took to her Instagram to announce the video saying; I love women? new mashup with @doddleoddle @laurenaquilina & @tessaviolet up on dodie’s youtube brought to you by the power of technology & the power of friendship, it’s crazy human psycho crush part ii AKA the insecurity megamix.”
This isn’t dodie’s first release off her album Build a Problem. Cool Girl came out in October after being featured as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record. The intimate track tells the story of how we sometimes make ourselves smaller in order to fit into people’s perceptions of how we should be. The song was followed up by Rainbow which was released last month and is about the importance of pride and the shame that comes with being a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Speaking about her upcoming album to The Metro, dodie said; “I think I was going through a crisis actually, I was very unsure of who I was and I was trying to figure it out in music. So I think it’s quite unstable of an album – but it’s definitely honest.” She also added; “I’d like people to come away from this album knowing what I can do.”
dodie will also being doing a tour to support the album which will kick off on the 19th of September 2021 in the O2 Apollo in Manchester before heading to Glasgow, Birmingham, Southampton, Bristol before finishing of the UK tour in Eventim Apollo in London on the 27th of September.
