dodie, real name, Dodie Clark has announced that her debut album Build a Problem, which was supposed to be released on March 5th has been pushed back three weeks and will now be released on the 26th. In true dodie fashion, the news was announced in a very sweet video on her YouTube channel.
In the video, dodie is wearing the post carrier’s outfit from her recent Hate Myself music video with knitted letters, that she previously used to announce the album, spelling out the phrase: “O Bum.” She sings a short song explaining because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit, there are vinyl distribution issues which won’t be resolved in time for the album’s original release date. You can check out the video below.
In another video on dodie’s second YouTube channel, doddlevloggle after the song there is a behind the scenes clip of dodie being told the news by her manager that they had to delay the album. Her mascara has completely run down her face, showing her devastation at the news. dodie then looks to the bright side of the news, which will include her releasing another single from the album and doing more press for it too.
dodie has released three singles off of Build a Problem so far. Cool Girl came out in October after being featured as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record. The intimate track tells the story of how we sometimes make ourselves smaller in order to fit into people’s perceptions of how we should be. The song was followed up by Rainbow which was released in December and is about the importance of pride and the shame that comes with being a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
dodie then released Hate Myself in January, on Annie Mac’s Hottest Record, dodie described the meaning of the song saying; “It’s basically like, I think relationships in the past have made me feel uneasy when someone goes quiet and they’re dealing with their problems introspectively and I begin to blame myself.”
Build a Problem will be dodie’s debut album. Speaking about the album to The Metro, dodie said; “I think I was going through a crisis actually, I was very unsure of who I was and I was trying to figure it out in music. So I think it’s quite unstable of an album – but it’s definitely honest.” She also added; “I’d like people to come away from this album knowing what I can do.”
dodie will also be doing a tour to support the album which will kick off on the 19th of September 2021 in the O2 Apollo in Manchester before heading to Glasgow, Birmingham, Southampton, Bristol before finishing off the UK tour in Eventim Apollo in London on the 27th of September.
