Following a previous announcement that they will be playing an album release show in October (I wrote an article on it, should read it) the Australian rockers have now released a new single to further tease their fans’ ears. It is called ‘Learning Alive’ and it is a slow-burning, reflective song which builds to a satisfying instrumental crescendo to round the song off.
This is now the fourth single off the new album titled ‘The Glow’ and if the singles are anything to go off, it is shaping up to be a defining album for the band. Personally, the singles have proven to me that DMA’s are more than a one trick indie pony and have shown that they can still produce anthemic indie bangers and incorporate other elements of music that they, at one time, would maybe be more wary to touch upon.

To go in tandem with the release of the new single, the band also released a music video for the track. In the video it shows the boys going about their tour and it really plays into the more melancholy feel of the song. This is maybe done on purpose to highlight the fact that the band are missing the feel of playing live and can not wait to get out on the stage. Something which I feel as if we can all relate to, the sooner gigs are back the better.
In the comments for their video, their fans have shown their appreciation to their new music with some saying “It’s rare to fall in love with every single song a band drops, but here we are, falling in love all over again.” I think if you were to search ‘well received’, this YouTube comment section would come up.
In a previous interview with NME the band were quoted with saying “We’re more fearless.” From these new singles I think this shows through a lot as they are showing their previously unseen ability to bring in other styles of music into theirs. Hopefully this is a trend that continues into their album and their future albums because it proves that they are more than just a paint by numbers band and can surprise.
