Motown legend, Diana Ross is set to headline the BBC’s Platinum Party at The Palace concert celebrating the Queen’s 70-year Jubilee. Diana is an American singer and actress, who achieved international glory, initially as the lead singer of the vocal group the Supremes, and then later on as a solo artist. Last year, in November 2021, Ross released her twenty-fifth studio album via Decca Records, named “Thank you”. This was her first studio album since 2006, and contained her first bunch of original material since 1999. Ross worked on the album and writing during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in 2020. The entire album was recorded in Ross’s home recording studio.
“ThankYou” included four singles, “Thank You”, “If the World Just Danced”, “All Is Well” and “I Still Believe”. Debut single “Thank you” peaked at number 38 on the UK Singles Sales Chart and number 37 on the UK Singles Download Chart. “If the World Just Danced” peaked at number 57 on the UK Singles Sales Chart and 56 on the UK Singles Downloads Chart. In a review on Pitchfork, the album “Thank You” was described as offering “a timely reminder of the vast pop smarts and emotional range that made Ross the diva’s diva. The title has a faint ring of finality; if, God forbid, this should prove to be Ms. Ross’ last studio album, then it would be a fitting tribute to one of the most formidable careers in American musical history.”
