Dermot Kennedy has announced huge headline tour of the UK and Ireland in 2019. The artist is set to play his biggest shows to date, he is set to kick start the UK leg of his tour in Bristol, on the 6th of May 2019 and he will bring it to a close in Dublin, on the 16th of May 2019.
The Irish-born singer/song-writer has had a busy 2018, which he will follow with a packed 2019. He will hit the UK and Ireland in May 2019, after completing a tour of Australia, which he will begin on the 28th of December 2018 and conclude on the 11th of January 2019, before returning to Canada for a four-date tour, which he will kick start, on the 1st of April 2019. Following his tour of the UK and Ireland, Kennedy will move on to a four-date tour of Europe.
The 25-year-old, rising star recently released a new track ‘Power Over Me’, which saw him work with Toronto producer Koz, who’s collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Dua Lipa. The new material follows up his EP ‘Doves & Ravens’, which he released in 2017, and is expected to feature on a follow-up EP.
Kennedy has been tipped as a rising star by streaming giant YouTube. The playlist was made for listeners to “get to know the soon-to-be most talked about acts of 2019″. The full list includes 56 songs, with ‘Power Over Me’ by Dermot Kennedy holding the eighth spot.
Speaking about the list, a grateful Kennedy said: “YouTube has been so helpful for me to go from an Irish busker and musician to reaching a global stage and having so many people hear my music and see my videos.” From humble beginnings, the singer became popular on Spotify for his acoustic covers. Now Dermot Kennedy has close to three million monthly listeners on the streaming site.
Hailing from County Dublin, Kennedy began his music career when he was 17, when he earned a degree in classical music. After college he busked in order to save money for studio time, which he used to release his first three songs on Spotify and eventually releasing the EP ‘Dancing Under Red Skies’ in 2013.
However, it wasn’t until three years later, after he honed his craft, that he found a breakthrough, he found viral success with his single ‘After Rain’, which racked up millions of Spotify streams in 2016. Kennedy followed up the single with his 2017 EP ‘Doves & Ravens’.
Kennedy gives a subtle nod to the two life-altering events that underlie each of the four songs in his ‘Doves and Ravens’ EP: falling in love and facing loss. Speaking about the EP, Kennedy said: “In my songs, verse to verse, line to line can jump back and forth between those two subjects. They’re both always in my mind, and I think that goes a long way toward explaining the idea behind ‘Doves & Ravens.’ The songs all have a mix of light and shade.”
He has nearly 1.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify and has amassed over 20 million plays on his breakthrough single “After Rain.” His style is firmly based in alt-folk, although his latest EP ‘Doves & Ravens’ adds a contemporary spin to the poetic and folk-influenced lyrics. He is signed to Tap Management, the same agency that manages Lana Del Ray and DJ Shadow, among other talented artists.
