The collaborative album contains 12 cover songs including artists Charlie Chaplin, PJ Harvey, Neil Young, Mark Lanegan and Bob Dylan whose songs are covered on the album. The new single “Metal Heart” is a Cat Power‘s cover. It has also been rumoured that Power’s herself is also set to release a new album of covers.
Dave Gahan has been the frontman, of the English electronic music band Depeche Mode since 1980 with bandmates Martin Gore (Co-lead vocals, main songwriter, keyboards, guitar) and Andy Fletcher (Keyboards). The band have released 54 singles according to the UK Official Singles Chart, have had 17 top ten singles and have sold over 100 million records worldwide. Gahan continues to work with the band amid his solo and collaborative work.
Soulsavers, also known as The Soulsavers Sound System consists of English-American production and remix team duo Ian Glover and Rich Machin. The new collaborative album is the third collaborative outing for Gahan and Machin and follows their previous collaborative albums, The Light The Dead See (2012/Gahan- guest vocalist and songwriter for non-instrumental singles) and Angels and Ghosts (2015/Gahan- guest vocalist and songwriter).
Machin has joined forces with Gahan in the absence of Glover for their new album. The new album Imposter has been described as an album, that is not a cover album, but an album that consists of 12 songs from various genres and periods. Gahan said of the album “There’s not one performer on the record who I haven’t been moved by”
Although most of the work on the album was completed remotely due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, the duo recorded the album with a full band at Malibu’s Shangri-La recording studio in November 2019.
The album was produced by Gahan and Machin, is set to be released by Columbia Records on November 12th and will be available on digital as well as physical platforms. Gahan and Machin’s new single “Metal Heart” is also set for release this Friday, October 8th.
