‘David Bowie World Fan Convention’ has been announced. It will be across Liverpool venues next June on the anniversary weekend of the release of “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust,” celebrating the “Man Who Fell To Earth.”
Presented by Sound City and David Bowie Glamour. The event, which is due to take place between 17-19 June 2022 in Liverpool, will celebrate the icon’s legacy with live performances, exhibitions, and talks from photographers and designers who worked closely with Bowie. Fans will also get the chance to “brush shoulder to shoulder” with some of the names who collaborated with the star man, including bandleader for 30 years, Carlos Alomar and the last musician to play with Bowie saxophonist Donny McCaslin.
In a statement, the convention is described as a “complete cultural immersion into the life, work and legacy of one of the planet’s greatest musical exports; the convention should be the first plan in the 2022 calendar for fans of all ages and interests.”
David Bowie’s official Instagram account announced their excitement for the event: “While not an official event, we are happy to exclusively announce the coming together of Bowie fans in Liverpool next year for the grandly titled DAVID BOWIE WORLD FAN CONVENTION.”
‘David Bowie World Fan Convention’ will also feature a ‘Bowie Ball,’ a party where fans will be encouraged to dress up in their favourite Bowie get up.
Sound City’s, Dave Pichilingi, who are organising the event, said: “There will only ever be one David Bowie and we all still feel the gap left by his presence in the world of music and wider popular culture. His status is confirmed, not only by his incredible back catalogue, but by the fact we still find so much to find out and say about him.” He continued: “It’s a story that goes on, not only through his work, but the mark he left on the people he encountered along the way. We’re delighted to have so many of those people with us next June.”
