Dave has dropped surprise new tracks ‘Titanium’ and ‘Mercury.’
Announcing the tracks surprise release on Instagram, Dave is pictured in Los Angeles, California. The shots show him leaning on a blue Astin Martin, who he teamed up with in early March to reveal their new Formula 1 car.
Dave performs solo on the track ‘Titanium,’ which is his first time doing so since his 2019 song ‘Paper Cuts.’ Dave is then accompanied by singer-songwriter Kamal on ‘Mercury.’ The hook on ‘Mercury’ is sung by Kamal, and is accompanied by a piano intro. In a press release he revealed that the tracks were recorded in a moment of “pure inspiration.”
The rapper teased the tracks in a video uploaded to social media earlier this month. Dressed in turquoise blue, he circled his production desk as he performed a snippet of the track ‘Titanium.’ Rapping the lyrics: “I’ve got a house in the sticks it’s awkward/ I know that my neighbours are voting Tory.”
The London rapper has hinted towards the release of new music on Instagram over the past few months. Writing on a since deleted post: “After this imm, I promise my second album,” accompanied with images of himself and West London rapper Fredo on a sunny holiday. However, there is yet to be any news on a follow up to his debut ‘Psychodrama.’
Over the past year, Dave has linked up with other UK rap household names, including Giggs, Fraser T Smith and Ghetts. He also stepped up to produce fellow rapper Fredo’s latest album ‘Money Can’t Buy Happiness. Writing about the album’s release, he said: “My brother created a classic album and I just wanna take this moment to say mans so grateful to everyone that was a part of this. Fred took this to a different place and everyone involved went there with him. Proper inspired and again I wanna say bro took a chance on me and on Kyle when no one else would so I hope we done you justice and to all the producers on the tape you man went nuts. But todays Fred’s day and I hope everyone out here can recognise this guys special. That’s my brother and it’s deeper than rap trust me.”
Releasing his debut album ‘Psychodrama’ in 2019, Dave has quickly worked up to the top of the UK rap scene. The album gained critical acclaim and received awards, including GQ Breakthrough Music Act Award in 2019, Mercury Award also in 2019, he was one of the youngest winners in Mercury Award history. ‘Psychodrama’ is also the first nominated album, for seven years, to have already sold over 100,000 copies before winning the award.
Dave is set to headline Manchester festival Parklife this September, joining fellow rappers Aj Tracey, Burna Boy, Pa Salieu, Skepta, Little Simz, Young Thug and Megan Thee Stallion
