At 71, Lauper is bringing her decades-long career on the road one final time, performing a setlist packed with iconic hits like ‘Time After Time‘, ‘True Colors‘, and ‘She Bop‘. The farewell tour is named after the singer’s highest-charting single on the UK Singles Chart, ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’, which peaked at No. 2 in 1984. Despite never reaching No. 1 in the UK, the song became her signature hit and remains one of the most iconic pop anthems of all time. It was a global success, topping charts in several countries and earning Lauper a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1985. With a career spanning more than 40 years, Lauper has sold over 50 million records, won multiple Grammys, and earned a Tony Award for her work on ‘Kinky Boots‘. Beyond music, she has been a tireless advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and women’s empowerment, ensuring her influence extends beyond the stage. In a recent interview for The Times, the singer said: “I want to say goodbye big, you know? There is an art to standing still and singing, and I do not have that talent. I go.”
This farewell tour is expected to be one of the most memorable in recent years. Fans can look forward to a memorable and emotionally resonant experience, celebrating Lauper’s decades-long contribution to music. Tickets went on general sale on Friday, June 28, 2024 with a few last-minute tickets still being available via Cyndi’s official website.
