Pop newcomer Conan Gray is gearing up for his biggest tour ever this year. The tour is in support of his upcoming debut album Kid Krow set to be released on March 20 via Island Records. The UK also appears in the announced tour dates, with four shows in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, and London, kicking off on May 21st. Tickets will go on sale this Friday 14th, February at 9AM via Live Nation.
Conan Gray is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Georgetown, Texas. Gray initially emerged as a YouTuber creating various types of creative contents on his channel, such as music cover and art. In March 2017, he self-released his first ever music, “Idle Town”, a single that Gray wrote to pay tribute to his hometown while revealing his boredom towards the town. The single was later gathered with four other songs, compiling a complete EP titled Sunset Season. The EP spawned the singer with much recognition as one of emerging artists from Generation Z to watch, with the likes of Billie Eilish and Clairo.
After gaining increasing popularity from the tracks like “Crush Culture” and “Generation Why“, Gray is ready to drop his first full-length LP this March. Kid Krow is a 12-track record that Gray uses as “a study of how [he] perceive[s] the world”.
“I talk a lot about my friends and people I’ve met touring over the past year. It’s me. I’m not the coolest person, but the album is me accepting the fact I’m weird and I don’t need to be anybody else. It’s also a chance to encourage others to embrace who they are and be unapologetic about it,” explains Gray to DIY.
The album has been slowly promoted with a string of singles like “Checkmate” and “Maniac“. These two tracks are Gray’s departure from his signature bedroom-pop sounds in Sunset Season with an experiment with a rock sound. “The Story” is the latest single taken off the record. It is an acoustic track that bares his emotions and feelings about the lessons to let go of the past; the track also features Gray’s very personal narratives about having a crush on the other boy, repressing his sexuality, and being stuck in a boring town.
