On Friday, July 10, Coldplay’s “Parachutes” has turned 20 years old. In celebration of the anniversary, the band has announced a new special vinyl edition of the album which will be released on November 20.
The new vinyl will be pressed on a transparent yellow vinyl and is available to pre-order now. You can purchase it here. Since it’s release, the longplayer has sold over 13 million copies worldwide, hitting Number 1 in multiple countries. It includes the band’s first hit “Yellow”. To celebrate the anniversary, Coldplay posted a short video of an unseen, different version of the “Yellow” music video.
The track list of the new vinyl reissue contains the songs “Don’t Panic”, “Shiver Spies”, “Sparks”, “Yellow”, “Trouble”, “Parachutes”, “High Speed”, We Never Change”, “Everything’s Not Lost” and the hidden track “Life Is For Living”.
During the coronavirus lockdown, Coldplay have been part of various livestreams and benefit gigs played from home. Last month, they performed at the virtual “Global Goal: Unite for Our Future” festival which was organised by Global Citizen. During the event, the band dedicated their song “Paradise” to the 23-year-old Elijah McClain, a black man who died in police custody in 2019.
Apart from entertaining their fans during the lockdown and making the no-concert-time as comfortable as possible for the audience, Coldplay have also reached out to help the music industry. The live entertainment industry got badly affected by the lockdown measures, with venues all across the country being forced to close down for the moment, many of them worrying about surviving the pandemic. In order to help the venues and the venue workers, Coldplay, amongst many other British artists, have signed an open letter to the UK Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, in which they’re calling out for help for the UK music scene.
Fans are hoping that concerts will be allowed again soon so that they can see the band live and enjoy a live celebration of the “Parachutes” anniversary. In the meantime, check out the clip of the unseen version of “Yellow” below:
Take 1 of the Yellow video (hidden in the vaults since 2000). There were loads of extras in this version, but it rained all day so we sent them home at 4pm. Chris grabbed the cameraman and said ‘let’s just walk down the beach’. Worked out well in the end! PH pic.twitter.com/u4uO67vs75
